“Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind.”
~ Rudyard Kipling
I love the written word and am relatively fluent in it. Less so, the spoken word. I fast grow weary of inane chatter and small talk, though I hold deep appreciation for one-on-one conversation that goes beneath the surface.
Yesterday I was reminded of the power of the spoken word when my son called, out of the blue because he said he was thinking about me, to tell me something.
I’m still basking in appreciation for our conversation, and the follow-up text message afterward. He may never realize just how much those few minutes meant to me even though I told him so.
Today I am encouraged, grateful, optimistic, and have a fresh appreciation for words spoken aloud from heart to heart.
