Wednesday, August 15, 2018 – Not By Sight

Some things have to be believed to be seen.

Madeleine L’Engle

From where I sit, as day breaks, it looks like a foggy winter morning outside—but it is August, and the forecast for this day is 31C / 88F under clear skies. Our city is under a blanket of smoke from the forest fires again. It will keep the temperature down, and it is unlikely that the sun will shine here at all today.

It does not look like a sunny and warm August morning, but it would be if not for the smoke. I am reminded of how easy it is for me to be swayed by what appears in front of me, rather than trust that which I know to be true—that which is sometimes not visible with my human eyes.

It is mid-August, not December. The smoke temporarily mars my view but above it the sun still shines.

I walk by faith, not by sight.

Word wrangler. Photo taker. I'm here early every morning with one of my photos and a few simple words. | Nulla dies sine linea: not a day without a line. | Soli Deo gloria: to the glory of God alone.

  1. This is so true LInda. Our skies are smoke filled as well, but I know that the sun is still shining for someone somewhere, and we will see it again too.

  2. Smoke here too. Love the picture – if I was to give it a title – it would be ‘Promise’.

  3. A friend has the Madeleine l’Engle quote on her blog banner, so true!

So sorry about the fires and smoke . . . hope it isn’t as bad as last year. :- /

  4. That’s a wonderful quotation … and so sad to read about your smoky atmosphere and the fires :(. We’ve had 80 acres just five miles away burn up, and it find it so distressing.
