Celebrating Michael’s Birthday

It was my son’s thirty-first birthday yesterday and to celebrate the occasion, Gerry and I traveled to 100 Mile House (yes, that’s really the name of the town he lives in) to spend the weekend with him.

In keeping with tradition we spent yesterday out-and-about in the nature around the area.

We lucked out on the weather. The forecast was for a windy, rainy, blustery day but it turned out to be sunny and perfect weather for hiking.

First stop: Mahood Falls and Canim Falls.

Spectacular!

Here is the birthday boy, his girl Robyn, and their little dog Austin.

This was our first opportunity to meet the new granddog.

Then it was off to the camping area and a walk along the dog beach.

Chelsea and Maya had fun!

Austin had fun!

Gerry and Michael had fun!

Before we could get to the third set of falls Michael and Gerry had to clear the road. Recent wind storms had blocked the way.

Twenty minutes? That’s the deception about Deception Falls! It took longer and it was a trek none of us bargained for!

Gerry: Pant, pant, pant.

Linda: Pant, pant, pant.

Robyn (to Michael after looking back and seeing us on our hands and knees crawling under some logs): Do you think they’re still having fun?

We were!

I’m glad we didn’t see this fellow until we were safely in the car and heading back to the main road.

It was a fun day!

Happy Birthday, Michael!

I’m a writer, reader, and creative. I thought by now I’d have things figured out, but I keep coming up with more questions. I think that’s okay. I’m here most mornings pondering ordinary things and the thin places where faith intersects.

  1. What cute doggies! And the humans aren’t bad, either. 🙂

  2. What a beautiful area! Love the bear photo . . .and the close up of Austin. What a cutie.

  3. Ah, what a lovely place! Happy Birthday to you son! Cute doggies, too. I’m glad the bear wasn’t around with them either. That picture looks like he was close!

  4. Linda, Delightful pictures and story of a happy occasion. What a wonderful way to share a birthday! I’m impressed you hiked all that way. Austin and your two little dogs are adorable. I’ll bet all those little doggies were pooped! Thanks for sharing

  5. It was an amazing day! We were all exhausted at the end of it though – even the dogs!

  6. Thank you, Linda, for sharing your son’s birthday trek with us. The photographs took me back to Gooseberry Falls in northern Minnesota, along Lake Superior. Falls, “deception,” trails, downed trees, and bears. The sights and sounds and silence of the woods beckon me back to Minnesota. And your posting made me long to be there this fall.

    Peace.

  7. Great photos mom! Looks like you guys had a great day, and I am glad you were able to enjoy the day and see the falls…even…pant…pant…with all the work to get there!

    1. You would have loved it, Laurinda! And you would have been exhausted like the rest of us!
