This morning Gerry was out of the house before 6:30 for the men’s meeting he attends on Thursdays. I languished in bed sipping coffee, enjoying the beautiful view outside our bedroom window, and browsing Pinterest on my iPad pondering crown molding options for our updated powder room.
It takes me a while to make design decisions. I’m not good at it and I find it stressful. Add to that the seemingly infinite array of things to choose from for any given thing and I can easily end up anxiety-ridden and incapable of making a decision. That’s how it’s been with crown molding. We’ve taken more than a couple of trips to home improvement stores to look at options. Each time I’ve walked out of the store overwhelmed and no closer to making a decision.
“Just go ahead and do whatever you think is best,” I told hubby yesterday at the point of giving up.
This morning, looking at options on Pinterest, I found myself frustrated at my ill-performing iPad (making, and committing, to a decision to purchase a new iPad is another thing I’ve been procrastinating about lately) so I decided to head downstairs and get on my laptop instead. As I passed by the nearly completed powder room I couldn’t resist lingering for a few moments admiring the way the room looks now.
And then it hit me. Suddenly I knew exactly what the perfect style of crown molding was for that room. Not only that, I knew what kind of frame I wanted for around the mirror. Boom! Decision made. Pressure off.
Sensing I was on a decision-making streak I walked around and surveyed other areas we’ve been working on. Ideas flowed effortlessly and I remembered something basic about myself that I seem to have forgotten: I’m at my best in the early morning quiet. Of course! That’s the reason I used to be in the office before 6:30 am when I was working. I got the most accomplished during those hours when I was fresh and able to work without interruption.
I headed downstairs and took a few photos of the wildflowers Gerry brought home yesterday afternoon in an attempt to help me climb out of the funk I was in when I realized that I shot a bunch of photos without the memory card in my camera. (You can bet I’ve changed the setting in my camera so that won’t happen again.)
It’s been a great morning. I feel so much better having made some decisions. I may even head out this afternoon and get that new iPad.

Linda — I’m cracking up because just before I received email notice of your fresh post, I finished writing one for this coming Tuesday titled: “Decisions… Decisions… Decisions…” Clearly, great minds think alike!
That’s too funny, Laurie! Looking forward to reading your post on Tuesday!
I love days like that! So nice to hear about yours. I guess if everyday was like your yesterday we wouldn’t cherish them as much.
