It’s been decades since I’ve had a cat in the house and, if you’ve been reading this blog for any time at all, you know I’m a Yorkie person. (On that note, here’s a festive photo that our groomer shot of the pups last week.)
But this morning, on a foggy, blustery November morning as I was in the kitchen baking oatmeal cookies and bran muffins, I glanced over and saw Chica (Laurinda and Makiya’s pretty kitty) sitting on the windowsill and was reminded that there’s something special about having a cat in the house too.
No, I don’t anticipate going out and getting a cat any time soon—or ever—but it’s a treat for the time being to enjoy the coziness of having one in the house now that the dogs have adjusted. Maya still keeps her distance and doesn’t hesitate to voice her displeasure every now and then, but it’s just a disgruntled kind of letting us know that she won’t be sorry when Chica leaves.
But for now, she’s part of the family and adjustments must be made. 🙂
I prefer cats to dogs but given there are coyotes where I used to live and here as well, I have a big dog.
Had three cats and a dog for many years. Our beloved Aussie only made it 7 years (hit by car) but our cats who all died earlier lived to be 17, 18 and 19. Long haul and so sad in end. Never again.
