I’ve come to sing you a song called December.
Down with the Ship
I’m joining in with a group of writers for Five Minute Friday where we’re given a prompt (this week it’s BALANCE) and write for five minutes about it.
I have no intention of stepping a foot outside today, except for the front yard a time or two when Maya wants to go out and sniff grass to find the perfect spot for her . . . uh, business. We are writing about balance today and I find myself skewed hard toward the stay-at-home side of the continuum, and avoiding like the plague the going-out-into-the-world side.
It’s such a sweet month for hygge and home, books (both writing and reading) and cozy reading socks, Hallmark movies and quilts. I’ve come to appreciate this dark month so much now that I don’t have to go out into it. The days of heading out to work in the dark, coming home in the dark, and battling crowds in the stores on the weekends are long gone.
Now there is quiet, and slowing down, and embracing the gift I laboured long to get—time. Now there is going into my woman cave in the morning, lighting a single candle for hope, and waiting.

I wobble all the time in my Pilates class while I notice out of the corner of my eye, other straight bodies maintaining posture on one leg. There is still time, I suppose . . . !
Ha ha! Your comment reminded me that when I retired, I decided I needed to start taking seriously some things, like maintaining my balance, so I started standing on one foot while brushing my teeth in the morning, alternating feet as I switched between top and bottom. I haven’t done it for quite some time. I wonder if I’ll wobble now too!
I love that you’re finding rest in this season that is so busy for so many. The description of your day sounds lovely and peaceful. I hope you enjoy it! Visiting from FMF #5.
Hope you have a peaceful and balanced day too, Lesley.
“It’s such a sweet month for hygge and home, books (both writing and reading) and cozy reading socks, Hallmark movies and quilts.” Ah, I love this!! My quote for the day:)

Beautiful, lyrical post.
There’s no rest for me. Only cancer, and the fight to live.
Or,maybe, the fight to die with honour.
#1 at FMF this week.

Thank you for stopping by, Andrew.
Oh, this is so beautiful! I have come to appreciate the slowness of dark December days as well.
Thank you so much, Kathia. Isn’t it a joy to have come to enjoy these last days of the year? A perfect way to wind down what was as we wait on what will be.
