“We must learn to acknowledge that the creation is full of mystery; we will never entirely understand it. We must abandon arrogance and stand in awe. We must recover the sense of the majesty of creation, and the ability to be worshipful in its presence. For I do not doubt that it is only on the condition of humility and reverence before the world that our species will be able to remain in it.”
~ Wendell Berry, The Long-Legged House
Busy. Tending to this; tending to that. Getting things done.
Then, bristling, and wrestling against those mundane but must-do things I stop. I go outside. I sit on the grass in front of my front flower bed, in awe of creation but far more of the Creator.
At peace.
Later, I am in someone’s backyard and garden envy comes upon me. I feel it even now in this early morning when it’s still dark and the day has not yet come.
Today we will shed the mountains and I will breathe deep when I stand on the prairie. A respite of sorts. Busy of another kind.
I will take the gardens with me in that quiet place I will return to in my thoughts. Even as I store up new memories in ordinary moments that are, of course, never ordinary I will stand in awe.
With gratitude.

Garden envy – I have that sometimes, as I have no garden at all. I would love to have a garden, flowers and veggies.
