It’s been a week of fits and starts and uncertainty but here we are at the end of it, taking time to look back at some good things from the week that was with another Friday’s Fave Five post. Here we go.
Gerry’s annual salmon fishing trip. We weren’t sure it was going to happen this year, and the weeks leading up to it seemed like a roller coaster ride of “it’s happening” and “it’s not happening”, but it came together in the end and Gerry headed out yesterday morning. That means I’m on writing and reading retreat around here. Win-win!
Roasting tomatoes. I started doing this last year and it’s my new favourite way to preserving tomatoes. Spread chopped tomatoes, garlic, and onion on parchment paper lined cookie sheets; sprinkle an assortment of herbs on top; drizzle with olive oil; and slow roast at 275 degrees for a few hours until done. Slow roasting brings out the most amazing flavour! I package the roasted result in freezer bags and wait for an excuse to pull one out to enjoy on pasta. The mixture is thick, so I usually combine it with some of my canned tomatoes or tomato soup. Dee—licious!
Clear skies. We enjoyed a few relatively smoke free days this week and I was actually able to sit outside and read for a while. Sadly, the smokes moved back in this morning so we’re back to indoor days.
Boomers on Acorn TV. I enjoy watching this light hearted British sitcom. It’s not Gerry’s cup of tea so it’s another treat I’m enjoying while he’s away fishing.
Zoom. Yesterday, I joined some Story Circle Network sisters for 90 minutes of guided free writing on Zoom. I was called away for part of the time for an important phone call, but aside from that it was time we’ll spent and I’m looking forward to doing it again next month. I’m also looking forward to my own writing group Zoom meeting next Saturday. That we can gather virtually with women who have similar interests and passions is a gift the past eighteen months has given us.
Well, that’s it for this week. I’m heading back into retreat mode now. Happy Friday, all!

Enjoy your peace and quiet.
enjoy the peace and quiet!! YUMMY…your roasted tomatoes sound perfect for my tofu scrambles!!
The weekend is a win-win. I hope he catches lots of salmon and you get lots of rest.
Those oven roasted tomatoes sound wonderful! I’d add them to a lasagna, too.
I hope your skies clear up soon. I know it has been a mess.
I love the cactus grouping in the top photo. I’ve been thinking of trying to grow some. Your weekend sounds lovely! Hope your husband was able to bring home some salmon. That’s too bad about the smoke. Glad you were free of it for a bit. I’ll have to look up Boomers. What a neat idea to meet with a writing group via Zoom.
