Friday’s Fave Five – February 12, 2021

Toss a polar vortex in the middle of pandemic restrictions and you’ve got a string of pretty slow stay-at-home days. And yet I’m juggling a full-ish plate. The paradox is dizzying.

Anyway, it’s time for another edition of Friday’s Fave Five and a look back at the week that was.

New art supplies. I’m taking a class with Canadian watercolour artist, Angela Fehr and ordered a few things last week. A Daniel Smith half pan set, a block of Arches 100% cotton paper, and an Escoda Versatil #10 rigger brush. It was like Christmas all over again when they showed up at the door.

Floating. Sigh. I enjoyed another 90 minutes in a sensory deprivation float tank this week. Ninety minutes of nothing but silence, dark (not all dark is bad dark), and uninterrupted solitude in which I prayed, listened, and just allowed myself to be. Pure bliss.

Brilliant sunshine. Clear blue skies and blinding sunshine. It’s what I hungered for in the wet, gray winter months when we lived in WA. Sure it’s cold, but the sunshine is so good for one’s mental health.

All Creatures Great and Small. Have you been watching this new offering on PBS’s Masterpiece? We’re enjoying it so much!

Jigsaw puzzles. Yes, we’re still puzzling. We’ve done more puzzles this winter than we have in a decade! It’s a meditative pastime and a welcome one this year.

So, there we go. We’re another week closer to spring. The gardening pages are active with conversation and planning but I’ve yet to catch garden fever. Living in the moment right now seems to be the better thing for me.

Happy Friday and happy weekend. Rumour has it that it’s a long one here in British Columbia which means very little to me at this stage of life!

Thanks so much for stopping by. I'm here early most mornings with one of my photos and a few words about life and those thin places where faith intersects.

  1. The blue skies are beautiful. Our skies have been heavy and gray for several days, which is so unusual here. I’m loving All Creatures Great and Small. Jigsaw puzzles are one of our favorite past times, too. It’s been a while since I’ve set one up. I have no self-discipline and have been known to stay up way too late working on them.

  2. We’ve been enjoying clear blue skies and sunshine here in NY as well although temps in the single digits as i drove to my classroom this morning over the Hudson River. Yes i still work full time at age 61. Cannot imagine being home all day!!!

I don’t watch much tv at all….in fact only one show a week ( law and order SUV) although i do enjoy a couple of BBC netflix series.

    Enjoy the weekend!!

  3. Yes, I prefer sunshine to grey skies, even if it is cold (I grew up in PNW, so I know grey rainy winters).
We are enjoying All Creatures Great and Small so much! Just seeing the Yorkshire scenery makes me happy.
    Happy Valentine’s weekend.
