Friday’s Fave Five – March 11, 2022

It’s been a heavy week. I won’t go into detail about various burdens that joined forced to keep me awake last night and give me a headache today. Suffice to say, I’m just feeling done today. It’s been a while since I pulled together a Friday’s Fave Five post and maybe I need to do one more than ever this week. Let’s give it a go.

Daughter’s night to cook. Laurinda made sticky ribs for dinner one night this week and served them with her homemade bean salad (which she calls health in a bowl) and a delicious potato and carrot dish. It was truly a restaurant-quality meal!

A new puppy. No, not ours. Last week, our neighbour brought a Yorkie puppy home from the same breeder we got Murphy from. It’s a joy every time I see her bring the pup out to the pen she set up in the backyard for a potty break. There’s nothing cuter than a Yorkie puppy!

Capri pants, flip-flops, and a pedicure. I donned a pair of capris for the first time this year and went for a ped early this week. It felt so much like spring that I had my nails painted my favourite Caribbean blue shade.

Hot tea and essential oils. I’m sipping a big mug of Headache Halo from David’s Tea as I write this post. That and a bit of Peppermint Glow essential oil blend rolled on my temples is calming after an emotional morning. (I wanted to make an appointment for a last-minute float but, dang, they were all booked up today.)

Mask mandate lifted. We’re slow to the post here in British Columbia, but as of today, facemasks are no longer mandatory in public buildings. We’re looking ahead to April 8 for the elimination of the vaccine passport. Yet to be determined is if any people who have been put on unpaid leave due to their vaccination status will be invited back to the workplace. Sadly, I’m not holding my breath.

There. I did it. Now I think I’m going to sign off and pull out some paint and play. Happy Friday and Happy Weekend, friends.

I’m a writer, reader, and creative. I thought by now I’d have things figured out, but I keep coming up with more questions. I think that’s okay. I’m here most mornings pondering ordinary things and the thin places where faith intersects.
  1. It seems even more critical in tough weeks to stop and look for things to be thankful for. I’m glad you found several! Your daughter’s meal sounds wonderful. I don’t think I could handle a puppy just now, but how fun to enjoy a neighbor’s. We’ve had some lovely spring days, and though we’re due for cold and snow tonight, we should be back to better weather next week.

    1. It showed here this morning but what fell has all melted by now. Like you, we’ve had some beautiful spring days and am eagerly waiting for them to return.

  2. when i have a tough week i also try to be intentional to look for the blessings that made me smile. Hope your weekend is better than your week.
The meal (minus the ribs!) sounds wonderful….and guess what? I have a new member in my BIble study group I lead and her name is Laurinda. It’s so pretty!! Here in NY (eastern/capital region) we haven’t had warm enough temps yet for capris but i sure am ready for them AND for a new pedicure. maybe in another month……

    Have a restful weekend

    1. Thanks, Faith. I expect Saturday will look better than Friday. 🙂 How fun that you have a woman in your study group named Laurinda! There are not too many with that name and that spelling. Our Laurinda is named after my mom (Laura) and me.

  3. I am so ready for a pedi. Thanks for the reminder!
No capri weather here this weekend. Enjoy it for me!
I do hope your week improves. Some weeks just get us down (even in Australia).
New puppies are always a fave–so cute!

    1. Hope you’re able to enjoy a pedi one day soon, Willow!

  4. I think all animal babies look cute ! You still have snow ? We haven’t seen a single snowflake in Brussels ! this year ! Since Monday we are mask free, except for hospitals. But I still see a lot of people wearing masks especially in shops. I am happy to breath again !

  5. I lit up in surprise at the news of the new puppy . . . ! And then, read the next sentence. How nice that you get to enjoy him without all of the work:)

  6. I’m glad you found some things to lift your spirits and hope you’re feeling better now. We no longer have to wear masks here in the UK and the government has withdrawn the requirement for healthcare workers to get vaccinated.
