Time has seemed to run in fits and starts this week as Gerry and I have been busy making plans and decisions and getting things done. As I sit here early on Friday morning and cast my mind back over the week that was, it is a blur. Trusting that as I put some thought into it now, a set of joy sparkers will be revealed for this week’s edition of Friday’s Fave Five.
Birds. A Stellar’s Jay clinging to the side of our neighbour’s house catches my eye and, as I stand at the window watching, more blue birds land on the roof and a band of Flickers fly in to join the party. Less common than sparrows, crows, and ravens around there, these birds are fun to spot.
A holy encounter. I’m still chewing on this divine moment that happened one afternoon. Maybe I’m cheating to include it on this list but it was a highlight this week so I’m going to.
A good book. I’m late to the party on this one, but Sharon Garlough Brown’s Sensible Shoes (2013) is my new favourite book. I’m reading slowly so it doesn’t end too soon (also because I’m pondering personal things in light of it) but it’s tough not to devour the whole thing at once. The good news is that there are more in the series.
Soup and fresh bread. Autumn and soup go hand in hand. I toss the ingredients for an old favourite in the slow cooker one morning for an easy supper and lunch for a few days.
Watercolour. I dabble with painting poppies in my sketchbook and, thanks to the YouTube video I roughly follow, learn that Payne’s Gray and yellow combine to make a lovely shade of dark green.
There, I did it! The week had it’s share of joy sparkers after all. These, and more. I’m reminded of my daughter hunting for agates. She always manages to find them when she intentionally looks for them (and often when she’s not looking for them at all!). Joy is like that too.

That picture is gorgeous and that’s a good list. Yes your #3 should definitely have been included. I like your style of writing too. Have a good weekend.
Thank you so much for your kind words, Wendy.
I like your term ‘joy sparkers.’ I went back to read your post for #2. Those divine moments tucked into the everyday, and then they stay with us. I’m so glad you included it here.
I agree about soup and autumn. We had soup twice in one week. I’ve heard good things about that book but haven’t looked into it.
