I’m wishing a Happy Thanksgiving to all of my Canadian friends and family today as Monday is Thanksgiving in Canada. I miss Canadian Thanksgiving–feasting on turkey and being with my family. It’s been too many years since I celebrated Thanksgiving in my homeland but, Lord willing, it won’t be too many more years before I’m cooking a turkey and looking around the table at the beautiful faces of my children and grandchildren. (Thanksgiving 2014 is at our house, guys!)
In honor of Thanksgiving, and having come to the end of a trying week, I decided it’s a good time to turn my attention to things I’m grateful for in my life today.
- At the top of the list is, of course, my family that I’m blessed beyond what I could have ever have asked or imagined to have.
- Grandchildren. Yes, I know, they come under the previous category of family, but they’re so amazing that they deserve a bullet point of their own. Being a grandma is the best, absolute best, super-best, incredibly super-duper best, part of my life.
- My financial adviser who, bless his heart, confirmed for us this week that we’re still on target to retire when I reach fifty-five.
- The unseasonable warm and sunny fall weather we’ve been enjoying here in the Pacific Northwest.
- A garden that nourished us and brought me hours of pleasure as I tended it over the summer.
- A pantry filled with the fruit of my labor in the form of canned goods like dill pickles, beets, beans, spaghetti sauce, tomatoes and dehydrated onions, tomatoes, and herbs.
- A freezer likewise filled with with peaches, tomatoes, squash, beans, and triple berry jam.
- The weekend. Oh how I need a weekend.
- Grandchildren. They deserve a second mention.
As I sit here tired, winding down on a Friday afternoon, I find myself feeling blessed. I can feel the stress and angst of the past week fall away as I ponder the many gifts in my life and offer thanks to God for all he has done in my life.
All of that other stuff? Well it just doesn’t matter, does it?

I like your cornucopia.
Nice post. Sounds like you should have Thanksgiving at your house with the stock you have in your pantry and freezer.
Are you planning to move?
I feel the same way about my grandson, although he lives about a six-hour drive away. I wish I could see him more often and be a bigger part of his life.
We’re expecting a granddaughter at the end of this month. 🙂
An attitude of gratitude is always a good thing. We have so much to be thankful for don’t we? When we hear about government corruption and GMOs and tainted food and blah, blah, blah, it can bring the most optimistic person down. But remembering God is in control and how blessed we are is THE remedy. And sunshine helps too! Have a great weekend Linda.
Life is so fragile and short. It’s better to count our blessings than our woes.
Great list!
Yes, grandchildren deserve a double mention. An attitude of gratitude can change the world. Happy late Thanksgiving for CA. Bloom on in the USA. Be blessed than you ever imagined.
