Two years ago today my beautiful granddaughter was born and she has brought immeasurable joy to the heart of this grandmother since then.
Makiya is a busy little girl with definite “likes” and “dislikes” and near the top of her list of “likes” are books. At two years of age she has already accumulated a good selection of books of her own. Her mom takes her to the library regularly and Makiya spends a lot of time looking through her selection of books, one by one, and stacking them all up just so as she makes her way through the pile.
Makiya knows all of her letters and when she’s out and about will suddenly start spelling out the words on signs she sees along the way. I am convinced that she is going to teach herself to read before she goes to school (like her mom did) and that she will continue to nurture a love of letters and words into her adulthood.
At Christmas this year, her Mom had a swag with the words Merry Christmas hanging in their dining room and in between the two words was a picture of Santa. Makiya delighted all of us as she would go through the letters many times a day: M – E – R – R – Y – Ho Ho – C – H – R – I – S – T – M – A – S! Her mom tells me that Makiya eventually memorized the letters and would spout them off when she wasn’t even looking at the letters!
The blessing of having Makiya in my life has changed my perspective on many things. She is the light of my life and the joy of my heart. I look foward to watching her grow…but not too quickly.
Happy Second Birthday, Makiya! I love you!

Yayy! she loves books! Go Makiya!
Look at that cutie – and may I please have her hair? *smiling* – she’s a sweetie pie for sure …
LOL, Kat! If she ever decides to part with her beautiful locks, I’m first in line! She is blessed to have that color and curls too!
