“It’s paradoxical that the idea of living a long life appeals to everyone, but the idea of getting old doesn’t appeal to anyone.”

~ Andy Rooney

These are the strangest tulips. They were treated the same as all the other tulips I’ve had: I snipped a bit off the end of the stems, cut a tiny slit into the stem right below the flower to prevent them from flopping over (a trick I learned from my sister-in-love), and then put them in water.

They never opened any further. Instead, they gradually turned to a papery consistently, that’s not without its own charm, but certainly not like any other tulip I’ve seen.

There’s a metaphor there.

Today promises to be sunny and beautiful. My health issue is improving and I plan to spend a good portion of the day outside tending to things in the yard and down at the community garden. I woke feeling disconnected so need to remedy that this week too.

What are your plans for the week?

I’m a writer, reader, and creative. I thought by now I’d have things figured out, but I keep coming up with more questions. I think that’s okay. I’m here most mornings pondering ordinary things and the thin places where faith intersects.
