“Do you see that out there? The strange, unfamiliar light? It’s called the sun. Let’s go get us a little.”
~ Nora Roberts, The Hollow
It’s just after four when I wake, bringing with me the remnants of a complicated dream. It began with an encounter with a reclusive writer and the clackety clack of his manual typewriter, meandered through complicated and intertwined storylines, and ended with the writer’s granddaughter visiting the same place to learn the mysteries of her past. An epic tale told in the span of however long it takes to dream a dream.
I surface gently toward wakefulness, basking in the comfort of the dark and the bitter sweetness of the dream. The furnace hums. A comfort. We’ve entered into a cold snap; winter is upon us. If the forecast is accurate we’re in for a run of cold and sunny days. The sun will be welcome.
I’ve been shooting in different places in the house lately: following the light, embracing the shadows. I hope for time to take photographs today–my last opportunity for quiet picture-taking time for a while. I planned to spend the day at home but realize I need to get some groceries in preparation for our special visitor this week.
It will all come together.

Dreams are always a puzzle to figure out with me. Some of them being sweet ones I want to remember and others I just as well let go….Your capture is beautiful and such a reminder of winter days. I hope your run to the grocery store doesn’t take too much of your time and you will be able to spend lots of time with your camera….
Thank you, Nancy. It turned out to be a wonderful day despite having to go,out into the cold. (Which really wasn’t so bad after all. It can, and will, get colder!)
