“It is a time of quiet joy, the sunny morning. When the glittery dew is on the mallow weeds, each leaf holds a jewel which is beautiful if not valuable. This is no time for hurry or for bustle. Thoughts are slow and deep and golden in the morning.”
~ John Steinbeck, Tortilla Flat
I wake gently to the sound of birdsong and the sweet-scented morning air filling the room and caressing my senses. Thank you, I breathe.
It’s going to be another hot day–bliss. I will head to the garden early, while it’s still relatively cool, to sow more radishes, lettuce and turnips. I’m wrestling with taking out the spinach that’s already starting to bolt; reluctant because, while I’ll freeze what I harvest, it will put an end to the daily spinach salads we’ve been feasting on. We’ll see. I can’t wait much longer as I have squash and cucumbers waiting for the space.
Let’s see; what else? I have to make yogurt, stop at the store for a handful of things, send some photos to the lab for proofs, plant some tomatoes in potato bags (that sounds strange, doesn’t it?), and spend some time on the deck with my pup and a book.
It’s a new day and a new week. We begin again.

Yes, as you so beautifully say, we begin again…. The Steinbeck quote echoes how I feel this morning although we have drizzle and clouds this morning. Have a lovely day.
Beautiful quote. And I think it’s cool you make your own yogurt. I read a recipe for that once. Looks like too much work! Enjoy!
Making yogurt is about the easiest thing in the world, Karen. It’s basically just heating milk, cooling it, stirring in a bit of yogurt from the last batch, and leaving it to incubate. Here’s a post I wrote a couple of years ago about how to do it: https://lindahoye.com/slow-food-homemade-yogurt/
I think your recipe is the one I once read! 🙂
Love the quote. Your day sounds so peaceful yet productive. I hope you enjoyed it yesterday.
