Good morning, Lord. Thank you for the gift of this day. There’s this thing that weighs heavy.
Look at the eastern sky.
I don’t understand this thing .
See the shades of pink and red and yellow.
I’m concerned about this person and this situation.
See how it changes colour.
I can’t wrap my mind around the reason behind this circumstance.
Listen! The birds are waking up.
There’s so much pain in the world. It’s so easy to become distracted and overwhelmed by it all.
Remember what I taught you?
I’m afraid. I’m in pain.
Remember the most important thing.
What can I do?
Be still.
But what can I do?
Be still.
How?
Look at the changing colours in the morning sky. Listen to the birdsong greeting the day. Peace. Start there.
Then what?
Do the same thing tomorrow.
But, what if it’s cloudy?
It might be.
But how will I see the changing colours?
Maybe you won’t, but you’ll know they’re there behind the clouds because you’ve seen them day after day.
But there’s still this thing. I don’t know what to do about it.
Love.
What?
The answer is always love.
But what can I do?
Be still. Be filled. And love.
That’s it? That’s all?
That’s enough.
Amen.
