“Alexandra often said that if her mother were cast upon a desert island, she would thank God for her deliverance, make a garden, and find something to preserve.”

~ Willa Cather, O Pioneers!

Seems reasonable to me.

Peaches yesterday, vegetable soup today, more peaches tomorrow. The canning kitchen is in full production mode these days; of course I’m in my happy place.

Yesterday I employed my sous chef (Gerry) to tackle the chore of chopping green bell peppers for the freezer. It reminded me of a pleasant afternoon a few years ago when I was working in the kitchen, and he was at the table slicing bananas for the dehydrator, and one of us commented that this is what it would be like when we retired.

Exactly!

I’m a writer, reader, and creative. I thought by now I’d have things figured out, but I keep coming up with more questions. I think that’s okay. I’m here most mornings pondering ordinary things and the thin places where faith intersects.

  1. Isn’t it so fine that you are able to realize your retirement dream? 🙂
