“What gardening teaches us is that if you plant things, they’ll come up. But you have to be willing to wait for them to bear fruit because things are seasonal.”
~ Alice Walker
We started eating tomatoes again this week. I refuse to buy those facsimiles in the grocery store so we only enjoy tomatoes when they are in season. This week, I plucked the first of the little Sungold tomatoes–bliss!
I have never in my life enjoyed blueberries like I’m enjoying them this year. They are so sweet, plump, and delicious. I’ve got some tucked away in the freezer, some dehydrated for granola in the winter, best of all I’ve eaten bowl after bowl of them simply plain.
We’re road tripping today and looking forward to family time later. Simple happy.

Here are a few more simple happy things to start the day.
- The tap-tap sound of Maya running across the floor in the morning as she waits for Gerry to take her outside.
- The first sip from my frothy mug of morning coffee.
- Morning devotions.
- Open windows and fresh air.
- Anticipation of hugs and laughter later today.
