All my life I’ve looked at words as though I were seeing them for the first time.
~ Ernest Hemingway
Words: the first thing that come to my conscious mind when I wake for the second time this morning. Words, and the truth that they nourish and sustain me.
I wake, first, too early even for me and ruminate on memorized scripture as I try to fall back asleep. Unable to drift off, I reach for my Kindle and spend some time with Madeline L’Engle’s words in her delicious book, Walking on Water: Reflections on Faith and Art.
Now, late enough to stay awake for the day, I turn to words again and write a few simple musings as I sip coffee delivered with love by Gerry. In a few minutes, I’ll reach for the Bible that waits on my bedside table and dig in to my morning breakfast of God’s word.
Today, a day in which I have no commitments away from home and I resolve, the moment I wake with the thought of words on my mind, to spend the day with them.

The written word.
Old hymns.
God’s gift of creativity and wisdom to those who choose to share what they’ve been blessed with by writing books.
A granddaughter who sometimes stays awake too late reading, and a daughter who understands because she did the same thing as a child.
Pens and highlighters and sticky notes, perfect companions for certain books.

Just what I needed to read this morning, Linda. So positive and upbeat. Lately, I’ve been struggling with words as I work on a new piece of writing. This is a reminder to be playful and just enjoy them. Enjoy your day today!
Hope you had a good day, and that another one is heading your way today, Karen. We, as writers, know that writing causes angst at times, but even in that there is the sweetest of pleasures as we wrestle with words, sentences, and paragraph until they sing.
Glad you got a bit more sleep this morning. A day full of calm is just what we all need. Have a good one ??
Thank you, Celine. Wishing you a blessed Sunday.
I just get this awesome grin on my face whenever I read your “Simple Happy.” It is like a ray of sunshine on my day.
I’m grinning at the thought of you grinning, Karen, and that’s another thing for the simple happy list!
I too aspire to “dig in to my morning breakfast of God’s word.” And coffee. You always inspire with classic beauty, Linda.
Coffee and God’s word: best breakfast ever. ? Thank you, Marian.
