“Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth.”
~ Henry David Thoreau, Walden
One thing I’ve come to embrace since I retired is appreciation for the changing seasons. When I was still working the approach of autumn loomed on the horizon like a cloud of gloom. Now I welcome the change of seasons; autumn brings with it an opportunity to slow down and turn my attention toward other things.
Today I’m temporarily putting away my canning supplies and finishing up with the green peppers that are destined for the freezer. I’m taking a break next week as a very special visitor will be here with us.

(Don’t forget every comment on the blog in August enters your name into the drawing for either a copy of the beautiful Bella Grace magazine or my book Two Hearts: An Adoptee’s Journey Through Grief to Gratitude.)

I adore autumn for so many wonderful reasons! Glad you are appreciating it’s beauty too. And wow, thanks for mentioning my blog. ?
You’re very welcome!
I clicked on Barbara blog and was rewarded with a short, witty piece – the best kind. I left a comment there and forwarded the link to my daughter who adores all creatures great and small, especially furry pets.
Awesome! I’ve been one of Barbara’s followers for many years. Glad you checked out her blog!
I’m giddy with fall fever. It’s my most favorite season!
Fall does have its charms for sure. Enjoy the change of seasons, Joan!
I’m so glad we have the four seasons too. Well, I say that today, but I suspect it may be different on the -40 days that can turn into a week in January…….
