Like it or not, we either add to the darkness of indifference and out-and-out evil which surround us or we light a candle to see by.

Madeline L’Engle, A Circle of Quiet

And so, we choose.

We know the candle is the better choice but sometimes we struggle to find a match with which to light it.

We sit in the dark for a while, perhaps our eyes even begin to grow accustomed to the shadows.

Yet even as we see dimly, and reach lost and empty hands out in the darkness, we know there is a better way.

We come to realize that there has been a match in our hand all along and we strike it.

Light.

I’m a writer, reader, and creative. I thought by now I’d have things figured out, but I keep coming up with more questions. I think that’s okay. I’m here most mornings pondering ordinary things and the thin places where faith intersects.

  1. Much to think about on this beautiful Sunday..

  2. Line that resonates today, Monday: “We know the candle is the better choice but sometimes we struggle to find a match with which to light it.”

It’s a dreary day here, so I may light my candle. And I know I can find a match somewhere – ha!
