“Preserving was almost a mania with Mrs. Bergson. . . When there was nothing to preserve, she began to pickle.”

~ Willa Cather, Death Comes for the Archbishop

It’s like that for Mrs. Hoye too.

Yesterday, Gerry scored more asparagus at the green grocer that came from one of the nearby farms so I’m making pickles today. This will be the first year for these so I’m looking forward to it–the making and, later, the eating.

My canning shelves are looking pretty bare right now so it will be good to finally be putting a few full jars back. I have to inventory what’s left and make up a new list to keep track of what I preserve this year–so exciting!

Let canning season commence!

I’m a writer, reader, and creative. I thought by now I’d have things figured out, but I keep coming up with more questions. I think that’s okay. I’m here most mornings pondering ordinary things.
