“Books are a uniquely portable magic.”
~ Stephen King, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft“Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.”
~ Charles William Eliot
I surface this morning from a slumber so deep that it takes a real effort to shake it off; my dreams of books and authors reflective of how we’ve spent the past few days. We’ve been hunkered down by the fire with quilts and books. It’s been paradise.
Today we need to move more. There will be a trip down the hill for sweet potato so I can make a batch of dog food later. I’ll put Christmas away and restore order to the living room. Maybe we’ll take a short walk this afternoon if it’s not too cold.
And later, as the day begins to darken, I expect we’ll settle in again by the fire, Kindles in hand and ready for the adventure of a well-crafted story.
