In tattered gold
Tossing bits of amber
And jade, jewels of a year grown old:
~ Zephyr Ware Tarver
Welcome November, dark month that seems like a prelude. You pass by unappreciated, in a blur, some years. We find ourselves in mid-autumn bundling up and missing the early days of the season when nature dons her final glorious cloak before the winter sleep begins. You arrive with your dark days, and waning beauty, a month of pause, before the madness that can overtake the final weeks of the year.
Here in Canada our Thanksgiving is past and we will soon pause to remember our war veterans. Then, like a snorting and galloping wild animal released from her cage, the holiday season will take over. Stillness will become elusive; contentment difficult to hold on to.
So let’s do our best to appreciate every day this month. Let’s keep our eyes open for flashes of delight in the simple now. Let’s be content, satisfied, and grateful.
Welcome November, month of peace, of quiet, of settling in.
