“I am content; that is a blessing greater than riches; and he to whom that is given need ask no more.”
~ Henry Fielding
I head out to the deck, where it’s deliciously hot, with a new book Gerry just brought home from the mailbox, and settle in to read while the pressure canner is cooling. I’ve been in the kitchen all day; I’m tired.
Gerry heads to the sofa with his iPad. He’s been to the gym then driven an hour-and-a-half to visit his mom and made the return trip; he’s tired.
Later, I return to the kitchen and lift eighteen pints of vegetable soup from the canner to the countertop where they stand in line like soldiers with the jars of salsa I made earlier in the day.
We eat junk for dinner. In a home where the freezer and shelves are filled with all manner of fruits, vegetables, soups, and other nutritious food I throw up my hands in surrender and Gerry drives down the hill for burgers.
I chat on the phone with Daughter and Granddaughter while he’s gone.
We eat, then settle in and watch music and dance on America’s Got Talent for a while.
It’s been a full day. We rest well. Content.

Sometimes you just need a little “junk” food. I eat well, mostly, but every so often, I need the junk.
Yup. We’re not perfect!
Sounds like the perfect day!
It was! Thanks for stopping by, Cathy.
Linda, your break in routine sounds deliciously refreshing. Our bodies seem to call the shots and rewarded you with contentment?
And isn’t it a blessing to be at this stage of life when we are able to pay attention to what our bodies are telling us and adjust accordingly? Thank you for your words, Kathy.
