What’s in a name?

My blogging journey started in 2008 on Blogger with My Own Velvet Room. The name came from a favourite book from when I was a child, The Velvet Room by Zilpha Snyder.

I created two other blogs: A Grandma’s Garden and Arms of Adoption. When I started writing my first book, I also created a website. It was a lot to maintain. In 2010, I combined the blogs, renamed them A Slice of Life, and moved everything here.

In August, 2025, I moved A Slice of Life to Substack, but something didn’t fit. In early 2026, I resurrected my original Blogger blog, My Own Velvet Room but, again, found myself with multiple online homes.

So here we are.
