I’ve been busy at my desk in the woman cave this morning getting things done in preparation for a few days spent mostly offline. I’ve got a couple of balls in the air and want to clear the slate as much as possible because we’re heading toward Edmonton tomorrow to get our puppy.
This time is exciting, but bittersweet in some ways. Feelings about missing Maya and Murphy surface easily. As an adoptee, there are all kinds of mixed feelings about adopting a puppy and thinking about how hard it is for them at first to be separated from mama and littermates. All of this, yes, but mostly it’s exciting.
When I surfaced from the work on my desk, Gerry and I set about getting things ready for baby by setting up her pen and reorganizing things in cupboards in the laundry room where I keep dog stuff like pee pads, grooming paraphernalia, leashes, shirts, and the like.
Speaking of shirts, isn’t this a great one! She won’t rule, of course (well, maybe a little at first 🙂 ), though Yorkies are convinced they do. We’ll enroll her in obedience class when it’s appropriate just like we did with our other dogs (except Murphy who was unique in all ways) and teach her the ways of our little pack.
Tomorrow, we’ll be on the road bright and early for the 7ish hour drive to where our breeder lives. Then we’ll meet and spend time with our girl and plan to pick her up first thing the following morning for the trip home.
It’s about to get real!
