I flew to Kamloops with Makiya on Wednesday, bringing her summer visit with us to an end. We both remarked on how quickly the time had passed. She reminded me that we can have lunch together regularly, thanks to the plan we put into play a few years ago where we both get lunch and eat together while on a video call. Last time we did this, we chatted for over an hour.
On Thursday, I enjoyed lunch and a visit with my best friend and an early evening float—these, food for both body and soul. Then, an early Friday morning flight to Vancouver, and a connection back to Saskatchewan.
I was utterly exhausted when Gerry picked me up from the airport in Regina and grateful, when we got to Moose Jaw, for the soup he had made with leftover chicken and veggies from the garden that he served for lunch.
Today, I look forward to getting in the garden and doing some tidying up and, maybe, depending on how the day unfolds, taking my new camera lenses out for a test drive. And returning to practices that guard my heart.
I feel the intrusion from events in the news cycle and more. Home is my sanctuary; I have the ability to choose what’s allowed in this space. This morning, I remind myself of things I know to be true and set intentions. Seek quiet. Offer prayer in varied forms. Ruminate.
“In returning and rest you shall be saved; In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.” Isaiah 30:15
