This Morning

This morning I

  • watched four kids waiting for the school bus to pick them up in front of our house. A lone girl, the sensible one from all appearances, standing apart from three rambunctious boys, the youngest, her brother.
  • listened to a cricket chirping in our backyard.
  • smelled coffee.
  • felt cranky about the banging around my husband was doing pulling his things together for a morning at the fitness center.
  • unloaded the dishwasher.
  • fought with my hair.
  • smelled nature in the product I put on my face every morning.
  • looked forward to attending the first yoga class of the season this afternoon.
  • pulled out recipes and wrote down ingredients I needed for soups and casseroles I want to make this week.
  • updated a website.
  • texted my granddaughter.
  • unsubscribed to a couple of emails.
  • enjoyed a second cup of coffee on the deck.
  • watched vehicles traveling on the section of Thatcher Drive i can see in the distance from our backyard.
  • noticed a blush on the tomatoes.
  • surveyed the beets remaining in the ground and thought about the delicious borscht I made a few days ago.
  • remembered we have plans to go somewhere this evening.
  • prayed.
  • talked to my dog.
  • put pads I use to clean the floor in the washer and turned it on.
  • appreciated the geraniums, still strong and gorgeous.
  • paid my annual fitness center membership.
  • felt grateful to have reached this stage of life.
  • watched remote control plane dip and weave back and forth over a field and wondered who was flying it.
  • talked to my daughter.

And then it was 9:30 and I moved forward into the rest of the day.
