Friday’s Fave Five – September 8

After tapping out a newsy post here yesterday, I wonder if I’ll have anything to say for Friday’s Fave Five. It’s a challenge to look for little moments that spark joy and gratitude sometimes. I am sitting here with a freshly brewed mug of tea (Mother’s Little Helper from David’s Tea), Steve Bell playing on my Alexa, and challenging myself to look for five joy sparkers that I haven’t already written about this week. Here we go.

My daughter. Every morning, when she is driving to work my daughter phones me. I’m thankful for this daily touch point with her and beyond grateful for our close relationship.

School busses. There’s something about the routine of seeing school busses back on the road that makes me smile. One stops in front of our house to pick up and drop off two boys who live across the street. They just dropped them off—I can see them from the window in my woman cave. There’s another pair of kiddos with them, they must have moved into the neighbourhood over the summer.

Prairie skies. Gerry’s friend from Kamloops is visiting and we’re just back from a drive. I had him stop the car so I could capture this image of the big, blue, smoke-free sky. We haven’t enjoyed as many clear skies as anyone would like this year thanks to the smoke. That makes views like this all the sweeter.

My son. Gerry called to chat with him earlier this week and handed the phone over to me when they finished their conversation. He was at work (he’s the superintendent on bridge building projects in B.C.) and at one point he called out to someone “I’m talking to my mom!”. It’s kinda nice when he’s able—and willing—to take time in the middle of the day to talk to us old folks.

My granddaughter. I miss you. I receive a text in the middle of the day and we begin a back-and-forth conversation about what’s happening in each of our lives. This kind of everyday connection is priceless.

I can’t leave without sharing another picture of sweet Molly. I captured this one earlier today while we enjoyed after lunch snuggles.

    1. I never realized how much clear skies meant until the past few years of experiencing fire season in B.C. That we deal with the same situation here in Saskatchewan (though to a lesser degree) was a surprise.

  2. I love those phone calls from our adult children and the funny texts from the grands. Isn’t it great that if you say, I’m talking to my mom, the person just walks away and leaves you to do the most important thing in the world.
Love that picture! Smoke free sky!
    Have a good week~
