It’s Saturday afternoon, and we’re just back from walking in the Wakamow Valley. Gerry was there earlier on an inaugural wander with a few folks on what he hopes is the start of a Moose Jaw hiking club (Who saw that one coming?).
Moose Jaw is holding its annual Sidewalk Days event, which translates into lots of people and noise. We wandered downtown yesterday afternoon because, as new Moose Jaw residents, we felt we should. I don’t do well in noisy crowds and we decided to forgo the event next year. Coincidentally, we were visiting Moose Jaw last year during Sidewalk Days. After a short walk through downtown, we found respite in the peaceful Wakamow Valley and deemed it the better thing for us then, too. Less learned and internalized for next year.
I don’t know where the week has gone; every day felt like Friday to me. I don’t recall any specific moments worthy of writing about here and, you know, that’s okay. I’m on a quest this summer to enjoy a long string of ordinary and offline days. To that, I’ve established a routine of writing morning pages. I’ve been busy with activities for writing groups I belong to (see below) and, as a result, that’s been the extent of my writing lately. Must remedy that.
I’ve been a member of the InScribe Christian Writers’ Fellowship since we returned to Canada in 2014. Recently, I took on the role of webmaster and, among other things, have been busy creating a members’ library. If you’re looking for something to read, pop over and have a look at the varied selection of books written by InScribe members. I’m adding more almost daily.
I’m also a longtime member, board member, and contest coordinator for the Story Circle Network where we run three contests every year. Our life writing competition opens to submissions at the end of this month. Check out the guidelines and sharpen your pencils if you’re so inclined.
On that note, as soon as I publish this post, I’m heading out to the back deck and my favourite chair with my Kindle and a glass of ice water to get lost in my current read. Now that’s time well spent in my world.
