A Daybook

Posted on February 24, 2026February 25, 2026 by Linda

Years ago, I used to join Peggy with a The Simple Woman’s Daybook post now and then. She left the blog-o-sphere, but some continue the practice. It’s a good one, as it focuses one’s attention on the present as opposed to the nonsense “out there.”

Looking out my window

I see blue sky and sunshine. It’s cold-ish, but when the sun shines everything seems better, don’t you think?

I am thinking

that I’m glad I have pre-made meals in the freezer because I’m feeling less and less like cooking dinner as the day goes on.

I am thankful

for the faux fireplace in my office and the company of the flickering flame and warmth in the early in the early morning hours when Molly and I snuggle under a blanket in the wing chair to read, and anytime on these cold winter days when I’m in there writing or reading or painting.

One of my favourite things

is grabbing a coffee and going for a pedicure. Pampering aside, I always enjoy visiting with my esthetician. I did this yesterday and came away with pretty toes and a full tank from our conversation. A double blessing!

I am creating

space. That’s enough for today.

I am listening to

a peaceful Spotify playlist called Piano Covers of Famous Songs.

I am wearing

the same thing I wear pretty much every day right now. A t-shirt and sweater (from my favourite clothing store), stretchy pants, and comfy Haflinger slippers on my feet.

I am reading

The Keeper of Hidden Books by Madeline Martin

I am (re)learning

about the wisdom in stepping away and allowing oneself the space in which to sort things out.

In my kitchen

there’s a chicken carcass roasting in the oven in preparation for making soup stock later. It smells heavenly.

In my garden

Ah, the garden is fast asleep undercover of snow. But there is a vase of pretty pink tulips on the dining table to cheer us in the meantime.

Quote

These words came across my desk a couple of weeks ago. They’re wise ones.

“Wherever God is, we find sacrificial generative compassion. Conversely, wherever hatred or vengeance arise, wherever there is no tenderness, no capacity for welcome, no movement toward another, especially a stranger, then we can be sure we are far from the ways of God.” ~ Winn Collier

A moment from my day

Closing thoughts

I have to say how much I appreciate all of you who have come to visit this space recently, and left comments or sent an email. It’s been a real joy connecting and reconnecting.

It is always nice to learn a bit more about someone, and taking the time to just be is a wonderful thing.

    God bless

I do enjoy reading (and occasionally writing) Daybook posts. They feel very “of the moment” to me. Pink tulips are in a vase here, too. Such a bright harbinger of what’s to come.

I feel the same way about Daybook posts, Lorrie. Hope you’re enjoying your tulips as much as I am mine.

Hi, I’m Linda Hoye. Welcome! I live in Saskatchewan, Canada with my husband and our Yorkie, Molly. Retired from my corporate career, I appreciate having time and opportunity to fill my days with things that nourish my soul and spirit like writing. watercolour painting, reading, gardening, and blogging about the simple joys of every day. I’ve been blogging since 2008, starting fresh here in 2022 when we moved home to Saskatchewan. May this space be a sanctuary in a very noisy world. 😊
