A note to subscribers.

Posted on February 21, 2026 by Linda

I just sent this out to my subscribers on Substack. Posting it on here for the benefit of those who may be subscribed both there and here.

I’m returning to my website, and making my blog, My Own Velvet Room, my primary online home. If you were previously subscribed to A Slice of Life on my website, your subscription should still be active. I’ll be posting something similar to this on there shortly, so if you’re subscribed, you’ll get it.

Many of you have subscribed here since I came to Substack. I’m not going to move you, as the flavour of my blog is a bit different. I’ll leave it up to you if you want to join me there as well as, or instead of, here. There’s an option to subscribe via email or add the blog to your Feedly reader on the front page. (If you want me to go ahead and move you over there anyway, just let me know.)

I’m not leaving Substack entirely and will continue to post here occasionally, but everything I share here will also be on my website.

Thank you for reading my words here. I appreciate every one of you. I’ve not made this decision lightly, but it is the right move for me at this time. Every word posted on my website is mine, and mine alone, with no assistance from AI. Full disclosure: I asked ChatGPT to help with the banner design but that’s the extent of non-human input now or ever.

Questions? Please feel welcome to shoot me an email at [email protected].

I used to collect subscribers with Mailchimp but after a certain amount of subscribers it is not free anymore anywhere. I decided I didn’t want to pay. Good idea of your to give subscribers a choice whether they want to continue following you.

Hi, I’m Linda Hoye. Welcome! I live in Saskatchewan, Canada with my husband and our Yorkie, Molly. Retired from my corporate career, I appreciate having time and opportunity to fill my days with things that nourish my soul and spirit like writing. watercolour painting, reading, gardening, and blogging about the simple joys of every day. I’ve been blogging since 2008, starting fresh here in 2022 when we moved home to Saskatchewan. May this space be a sanctuary in a very noisy world. 😊
