Recently, I participated in an online event about psychospiritual resilience in these changing times, and how we can remain connected to our spiritual, emotional, and psychological well-being in the midst of all of this (*waves arms around*) and was reminded of words I tapped out during the pandemic years when it was especially dark.
Some things are different now, but not everything. If you’re like me, you might ask yourself how you can make a difference in a world that’s changing at warp speed. I reworked something I wrote in 2020 into a poem to offer a suggestion.
When it’s dark We keep showing up. When it’s hard and the evil and anger seem bigger than anything else, we show up. Something or someone reminds us that what we see is only part of the story and small, seemingly insignificant, things have the power to change the world. So, we show up. In ways we’re able. We don’t believe that the loudest voices are always the truest ones. We muster courage. Sometimes we swim against the current. We believe love is the most important thing and set aside time to listen, try to figure out how to live into it. We punch holes in the darkness one gesture, one piece of art, one word, one peaceful moment at a time.
