I’ve struggled to keep track of what day it was this week because of the New Year’s Day holiday which fell on Sunday but that was observed by many businesses on Monday. I can’t explain why, since it didn’t impact anything I did, but it seems any excuse to confuse my days, does. Maybe it has something to do with my age or the fact that I’m retired and don’t have a regular routine anymore. Who knows? Anyway, let’s look back at some good things from this week with another Friday’s Fave Five post.
Sunshine. Oh my, there’s nothing like big blue sky Saskatchewan sunshine and this week we had plenty. Fog rolled in yesterday, reinforcing the fact that the weather influences how we (I) feel. It was a good, healing week for the most part.
My 2022 Blog Book. Every year in January, I compile all posts from this blog into book format. It takes work to format it and I finished yesterday and ordered the print copy, it’s satisfying to know that’s done. Now I can move on to content editing my new book, Living Liminal: A Slice of Pandemic Life.
Grand days. We celebrated our granddaughter’s birthday on January 2 with a simple meal of homemade bread, minestrone soup, and, of course, ice cream cake for desert. It’s hard to believe this girl is 14 already! Cliché, but true. The two of us enjoyed an afternoon together on Wednesday that I wrote about here earlier too.
Home. One month ago today, we left Kamloops heading to our new home here in Moose Jaw. I didn’t share much about that journey here (including the harrowing first day when it took nine hours to make what’s usually a four hour trip). It seems a distant memory in many ways as we continue to settle in here. This week, time spent puttering in the kitchen and my office, taking delivery of a few new things (rugs for downstairs, a bookshelf for my office, barstools for the kitchen, spice racks for the pantry, a bed for the guest room), and Gerry putting up towel racks where there were none (oddly), continues to make it feel every more and more like our cozy home.
The Maple Leaf Bakery. It’s a tiny, local bakery located not far from where we live. They reopened this week after being closed over the holidays and Gerry picked up a sweet treat for us—two chocolate covered and two maple covered doughnuts. So delicious! There are many opportunities to support small local businesses in Moose Jaw and I am going to be intentional about doing so.
