It’s a tad tardy this year, but spring has sprung here in south Saskatchewan. We spend most of the afternoon outside yesterday and it is glorious.
The melt is in full force and that means it’s mud season too. I slip and fall in it when Gerry and I are walking in the field at the end of the street. It makes for a lighthearted, albeit messy, moment.
Gerry cleans the inside of the car and moves snow from the front lawn to the driveway; it melts as fast as he can move it. A stream in the alley behind our house trickles and lakes on the roads make driving and adventure (not to mention the obstacle course the potholes make).
Makiya puts together one of the raised garden beds while Gerry cleans the inside of the car. I scoop dog poop from the seemingly endless supply in the backyard left behind under the melting snow by the previous owners. Gerry enjoys chatting with neighbours while he works; I sit on the deck with Maya and soak up some sun, chatting with Makiya while she works.
I search for hints of green in flower beds but find none yet. It will be such fun to see what’s growing here in our new yard. We comment on how good it is to have our own space this year (read: no strata rules limiting what we can do) and make plans for a summer spent outside.
