Just A Quiet Day

Posted on May 11, 2023 by Linda

It’s cooler today, and cloudy, or maybe it’s fog. No matter. This too shall pass.

I’ve already fallen behind in weeding the beds on the perimeter of our yard and those lining our front driveway. Gerry took a pass a few days ago. They need more work. I confess I care more about vegetable gardening than pretty landscaping, but something must be done. All in good time.

Radishes are up in the garden, and I spied the first of the lettuce poking up. I’m on tenterhooks waiting for my tomatoes to harden off, and the weather to warm sufficiently in order to plant. Soon. Very soon.

I want to go to one of the local nurseries to get some annuals for pots on the deck but haven’t done so yet. I will before this weekend—and Mother’s Day, which will probably be a busy time. I guess that means I’ll have to go tomorrow.

Does it sound as if I’m running in low gear? I suppose I am, and for that, I make no apologies. I’m 64 years old and entitled to feel weary—especially on gray days like this one.

I’m expecting a visit from a cousin and her husband this afternoon. That they can drop in is one of the reasons I love living in Saskatchewan. I sent Gerry to the bakery to get a few treats for our visit. I should know better. He came home loaded.

Yesterday, I reconnected with another cousin from my adoptive family. We haven’t seen one another in—I don’t really know how long. Many decades, certainly. It is fun catching up and we’ll do a coffee visit one of these days, as he lives about 45 minutes away from us in Regina. There’s another reason it’s good to be back home in Sasky.

Gerry is currently at Home Hardware to pick up what he needs to set up the rain barrel we picked up from the City of Moose Jaw yesterday afternoon. Water is a precious commodity around here and saving rainwater for the garden is important lest we get hit with higher than normal water bills in the summer. We’ve seen some nice xeriscaped yards and we may consider something like that in the future. This summer is all about learning.

Farmers are seeding their crops. I love seeing the activity in the fields when I drive to Caronport to get Makiya after school. Saskatchewan is waking up from her long winter nap and there’s much to look forward to.

Well. That’s about all that’s happening in my world today. Pretty quiet. Pretty sweet. And I’m pretty grateful.

What’s happening in your world today?

Hi, I’m Linda Hoye. Welcome! I live in Saskatchewan, Canada with my husband and our Yorkie, Molly. Retired from my corporate career, I appreciate having time and opportunity to fill my days with things that nourish my soul and spirit like writing. watercolour painting, reading, gardening, and blogging about the simple joys of every day. I’ve been blogging since 2008, starting fresh here in 2022 when we moved home to Saskatchewan. May this space be a sanctuary in a very noisy world. 😊
