June, the last week especially, went by in a whirlwind.
Our daughter flew in to attend our granddaughter’s Grade 8 farewell celebration and, the next day, they both boarded a plane and headed home to Kamloops.
With no Yorkies in residence at the moment and a granddaughter gone home with her mama, Gerry and I are alone. It’s quiet. It’s good. And it’s strange, all at the same time.
We are making the most of it and leaning into “us” time with no obligations other than to ourselves for the first time in a long time. Our summer calendars are peppered with adventures and events, solitude for one of us (whee!), and a good measure of uncommitted time, in which we plan to explore Saskatchewan.
And sometimes, when we feel like it, we have the freedom to do nothing at all. It feels a bit like those endless summers when we were kids and vacation days stretched endlessly in front of us.
But time flies at our age, so we know this season won’t last forever.
So we’ll make the most of it while we can and enjoy every precious moment.

In other news, I’m over on Subtack today, reflecting on the rich, personal, and mystical sacrament of the Eucharist.
