It’s been another week full of experiences and it’s about to get better. But it’s also been a week of melancholy—I saw it coming—so I’m gentle with myself.
Walks in the beautiful Wakamow Valley provide healing balm.
We traveled to Regina and immersed ourselves in the Beyond Van Gogh experience with friends, enjoyed lunch at Olive Garden, and braved Costco. One of these things drained whatever energy I had left in me.
We put sweet Maya to rest our backyard memorial where Chelsea and Murphy are. That was hard. Our home is so, so quiet without a Yorkie in it.
I harvested the first green beans and Swiss chard. Steamed, they went well with a slab of salmon Gerry brought back from last year’s fishing trip—a trip that turned out to be the last of its kind. We’re going to miss all that salmon that has fed us consistently throughout the years.
Today is the first day of the Saskatchewan Festival of Words. I’m taking in a workshop presented by Michelle Good, author of the bestselling novel and must-read, Five Little Indians. I’m looking forward to the next few days and expecting inspiration and motivation to be the byproduct of being surround with so much creativity, setting the stage for the rest of the summer.
