Thursday Thoughts

Posted on September 7, 2023 by Linda

I don’t know where this week has gone. Discombobulated, given the Labour Day holiday, and, in a sense, a short week (though in retirement there’s really no such thing as a short week). Still, it’s felt a little upside-down.

I harvested the last of the tomatoes this week in light of threats of frost not far from here. No frost here in Moose Jaw yet, but nighttime temperatures are dipping into the single digits. It was time to bring them in and let them finish ripening on the kitchen countertop.

The harvest here in Saskatchewan is 51% complete. We drove out on the prairie on a couple of afternoons and it was satisfying to see bales in the fields. (I don’t know why, since I had nothing to do with it, but harvest comforts me nonetheless.)

I’ve taken on an expanded role with the InScribe Christian Writers’ Fellowship that has me panicking a tad and wondering what I’ve gotten myself into. Kidding. Kind of. 🙂 Anyway, I’m looking forward to the challenge and opportunity to serve an organization that, in turn, serves Christian writers here in Canada.

The feeling of fall is in the air—not much, but enough to notice the shift. This morning I harvested beets, lettuce, and carrots which will be part of our supper. I also tossed a few more ripe tomatoes in the freezer. I can hardly believe that I haven’t pulled out my canner this year. Still hoping to score some Roma tomatoes to roast and freeze. We’ll see. A friend brought me a bag of apples picked from her neighbour’s tree this morning (I was surprised to learn that apples grow here). Apple crisp is coming right up!

Gerry’s good friend from Kamloops arrived this afternoon for a visit. I hear them in the other room enjoying the first of many rousing games of cribbage. It’s a good sound. 🙂

Well, that’s about the state of things around here. There’s more on my mind but I’ll save those thoughts for now and do my best to return tomorrow.

Mind if I share another picture of sweet Molly before I go?

Hi, I’m Linda Hoye. Welcome! I live in Saskatchewan, Canada with my husband and our Yorkie, Molly. Retired from my corporate career, I appreciate having time and opportunity to fill my days with things that nourish my soul and spirit like writing. watercolour painting, reading, gardening, and blogging about the simple joys of every day. I’ve been blogging since 2008, starting fresh here in 2022 when we moved home to Saskatchewan. May this space be a sanctuary in a very noisy world. 😊
