A Simple Saturday

Posted on October 28, 2023 by Linda

This morning, snow fell like small feathers; this afternoon, the sun is out-ish and the temperature is above zero. It’s a nice mix for a quiet Saturday.

I wash bedding on Saturday morning, and decided to switch over to my winter duvet cover and flannel sheets today. It’s nice to change things up and I’m looking forward to crawling in between those soft flannel sheets tonight.

Gerry went for a hike this morning with a group at Buffalo Pound Provincial Park. He’s been working on starting a hiking group here and now has a group that gets together fairly regularly.

I’m pondering starting something I’ve had on my mind for years—an Older Women’s Legacy (OWL) memoir writing workshop. It’s not the best time of year to do so what with the holidays around the corner so I’m thinking it might be a January project. We’ll see. Meanwhile, I’m enjoying looking through material I’ve collected and put together and imagining how it might play out.

There’s something both magical and powerful about women telling their stories and I’ve been privileged to bear witness to many through writing groups I’ve facilitated. This would be something a bit different, with a fixed timeframe and more structure.

Molly, rascal that she is, has decided she’d like a bit more free run in the house and, especially, that she wants to explore what mysteries exist downstairs. This has necessitated rearranging some barriers that will stay in place for the foreseeable future until we’re farther along with potty training. Never a dull moment with a puppy in the house. This morning, she discovered her reflection in the glass panel on the pony wall beside the stairs. What a time she had giving that reflected puppy the what for!

It’s been a quiet day. Gerry brought home treats from the bakery after his hike and we enjoyed a game of chess. He retreated to his office to listen to a podcast he enjoys on Saturdays and I went to my woman cave to get lost in the book I’m currently reading. All in all, a pleasant Saturday all around.

The OWL workshop sounds intriguing. Is it something you would do in person or online?

Hi, I’m Linda Hoye. Welcome! I live in Saskatchewan, Canada with my husband and our Yorkie, Molly. Retired from my corporate career, I appreciate having time and opportunity to fill my days with things that nourish my soul and spirit like writing. watercolour painting, reading, gardening, and blogging about the simple joys of every day. I’ve been blogging since 2008, starting fresh here in 2022 when we moved home to Saskatchewan. May this space be a sanctuary in a very noisy world. 😊
