Friday’s Fave Five – June 7

It’s been a while since I shared a Friday’s Fave Five post, so thought I’d pop in with one today. The overarching theme of the week around here has been wind. It kept me indoors and away from my backyard garden sanctuary—disappointing, yes—but with a little intention I’m sure I can come up with five gifts from the past week.

Our neighbourhood. It’s a young one, and it’s delightful to see kids playing outside. One evening, I spied a forgotten scooter on the sidewalk across the street. It was still there the next morning and gratitude sparked because I know that in far too many areas it would have been long gone by morning.

My doctor. A mixed blessing, this one. I had occasion to see my doctor this week to refill a prescription. It was arguably one of the quickest appointments I’ve had with any doctor in my whole life. My prescriptions were sent to the pharmacy, which is what I was there for, but “just enough” is the M.O. with this practitioner who told me the first time I saw him that he specializes in men (!). Finding a doctor is next to impossible so I’m grateful to have one, but that doesn’t mean I’m not still shopping around.

Home days. The fitness center Gerry and I go to was closed for annual maintenance this week and, as I’ve already mentioned, it was too windy to do much outside (for me, anyway). We spent cozy afternoons at home with mugs of tea, books on our Kindles, and a Yorkie going back and forth between laps.

A birthday. Our sweet Yorkie, Molly, turns one today! When I think back over the first months of puppy-hood I still feel exhausted! It has been a sweet time watching our girl grow and change and explore the world. Happy Birthday to Molly!

National Donut Day. We marked the day by enjoying maple and bacon donuts from a local bakery. Dee-licious. (And no calories on a national holiday. 🙂 )

Heading out this afternoon with our grown-up cameras to see what we can see. Happy Friday, all!

  1. I enjoyed your Friday Fav Five episode today, Linda. What IS with all that wind, anyway! I would have enjoyed such a delicious sounding treat. Glad it was calorie-free on this special day set aside for celebrating doughnuts.

    Happy Weekend.

    1. Thanks, Brenda. Sounds like you’ve had more than enough of the wind too. It’s time for a change to warm and sunny garden-loving weather!

I really like your blog and so glad you did a FFF. Thank you for the comment on mine. I’m sorry you’ve had such bad weather…..we finally did some good thunderstorms yesterday (3!!) and i’m thankful for the rain as we really needed it.

Today is gorgeous and the temps are perfect low 70s. my absolute fave. If i don’t go up to kayak I’ll be puttering around my yard and flower gardens and taking walks.

Happy birthday to your adorable Molly!

I finally (after 4 years) found a primary doc i lOVE. she’s actually a NP, as is my neurologist. Both are female and take time to listen!!

I hope you have a beautiful weekend doing the things you love.

    1. We had female nurse practitioners before we moved here in December 2022. We received the best care ever from them.

  3. Hi, Linda! Thanks for visiting my blog. I sure do understand the problem with finding a physician who you can feel comfortable with. I’m possibly considering changing my doctor but who? It is a problem.

That donut sounds very good – maple and bacon. It has me curious as to the taste.

I really enjoy a windy day but only so much. It can be exhilarating but can sure cause issues!

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Melanie!

  4. I love bacon and maple combinations, in small doses. We missed National Donut Day here because we had some Crumbl Cookies on hand. But last weekend I found some mini Boston Cream Pie donuts in the bakery section of the grocery store. I had never seen them there before. They were so good. So I guess I did celebrate, just a little early. 🙂

That’s neat that the forgotten bike was still there in the morning. I know what you mean–in too many places, it would not have been.

I hope you find a good doctor. I am not thrilled with mine. He brushes everything off by blaming age and weight–as if skinny young people have no physical problems. He blames my husband’s diabetes for any ailment he has. I know age and weight can cause problems, but not EVERY problem. But I don’t know where else to look. Plus, if I wanted to be referred to a specialist for something, I think the dr. would go along even if he didn’t think I needed one.

Are those pictures both Molly? She looks so different in them.

    1. YUJM! Boston cream donuts are one of my favourites! Yes, that’s sweet Molly in both photos. Yorkies change so much in their first year it’s hard to believe they’re the same dog!

    2. Yes, I agree about maple and bacon in small doses, Barbara. Like it is with many things, small doses enjoyed occasionally makes the treat that much sweeter, doesn’t it? And yes, both photos are of Molly. Yorkies change a LOT in their first year!

We had some windy days too. In fact, the wind knocked over our umbrella and stand. So yeah, it was windy.

Happy Birthday to your Molly. It’s nice that she enjoys cuddling on those windy days.

Yes, a safe and kind neighborhood is truly a blessing.

Have a good weekend! Willow (willowscottage.blogspot.com. wordpress won’t let me post my website link)

    1. I’m a week late in replying—sorry! I suppose that means this week has been choc full of other good things that took up time. Hope you’ve had a good one too, Willow!
