My goodness. It’s been almost two months since I tapped out a post here. How did that happen? I didn’t intend to take a break, but it appears that’s what’s happened. The longest break since I started blogging in 2008, in fact. But here I am, back again, to this space that always feels like home.
I have been busy with a project these two months, and learning something new creatively. I’ll tell you about it one day soon.
Meanwhile, spring finally showed up—oh, what a back and forth this year as Old Man Winter simply refused to move on. As always, the inevitable happened, spring arrived, the garden was planted and the deck chairs put out, and now we are impatient for spring to move along and summer to show up. What impatient creatures we are.
I harvested the first little spinach salad early this week—little being the key word. I tuck spinach seeds in the ground as soon as possible in my eagerness to grow something after winter, and every year I am disappointed in how quickly it bolts once the warmer weather arrives. I’ve now sown romaine lettuce in the space where I pulled the spinach. As of today, I’m declaring this to be the last year I grow spinach, reserving the option to change my mind next spring when I’m sick of winter and itching to plant something.
I’ll leave you with some images of the irises in our front yard. I never really appreciated this flower, but have changed my mind since we moved here. My hubby tends beautiful perennial beds along our driveway and the irises are putting on a show right now.
Hope you are well. I’ll be back soon. 😊

Spring arrives when the Iris are in bloom. Your bed of purple looks fresh and inviting.
It really does, Letty! He’s doing a super job with it.
LInda, I was quite literally just thinking about you, realizing I hadn’t seen you in a
while and wondering what you were up to. Glad to hear all is well! Sometimes we fall into those unexpected breaks because we need a spark of something new, and it sounds as if you’ve found that in a new creative endeavor.
Enjoy your summer!
Enjoy yours too, Becca! I look forward to catching up with you as I’ve been mostly off Substack too.
Welcome back!
I too have benefited from a lengthy absence. My well had run dry, and I didn’t feel like checking out other writer’s wells either.
During my absence from blog-land, we took an ocean cruise, which gave me something special to write about.
Your irises are lovely, regal-looking. Mother used to plant rows of purple and yellow irises in our front yard.
