Hodgepodge – March 3

Posted on March 4, 2026 by Linda

Delighted to join in on another Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce at From This Side of the Pond and others with a March-centric pre-spring post.

1.  As the saying goes, ‘March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.’ Did your March come in roaring or like some other animal? Every month carries with it certain feelings, which is why some people love and anticipate December and others dread it. How do you feel about the month of March?

I’m not sure if it qualifies as either a lamb or lion this year. Temperatures are decent, no storms on the horizon. I think she’s just a contented beast at the moment and so am I.

I appreciate March as it bumps us into a new season, ready or not. March offers hope and a new beginning. I also remember March as the month my dad died following surgery 43 (!) years ago.

2. Where in your life are you a lion? Where are you a lamb?

I consider myself far more lamb than lion, but my Queen of the Jungle side comes out when required.

3. The Hodgepodge lands on National Pound Cake day. Do you like pound cake? If so do you have a favorite flavor? Let’s play this or that-

  • pound cake or layer cake? – pound cake
  • pound cake or cheesecake? – cheesecake all day long!
  • pound cake or angel food cake? – angel food cake
  • pound cake or brownie? – brownie
  • pound cake or pie? – depends on the kind of pie. My favourites are apple and pumpkin.

I haven’t had pound cake for many years. My mom used to make a delicious one.

4. What makes you feel childlike wonder right now?

Hyacinths on my kitchen counter that are opening and sharing their beautiful fragrance. I caught a glimpse of the moon’s eclipse in the wee hours yesterday morning and, while I’m not typically entranced by celestial happenings, it was cool to see.

5. What’s one thing you need to add to your wardrobe to get ready for spring? If you’re in the southern hemisphere, then answer for fall?

Not sure I need to add anything, but I’m looking forward to pulling out my capris and putting black socks away until fall.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I’m using this new month as a reason to pull out some photos captured a few years back when I was deep into photography. I have fond memories of that creative time and will return to the practice one day.

Beautiful photographs! I was hoping to catch the eclipse but we were completely covered up in clouds so couldn’t see a thing. Hyacinths on the counter sound lovely. I might need to add some to mine. Have a great day!

I am happy about the decent temperatures going into March. Sending love and hugs, so sorry about your dad.
Fresh flowers around the home are wonderful. I have some daffodils which have just opened. Beautiful photos!

I was just reading your bio (above). My husband has been on a fishing trip (2X) to Reindeer Lake. I think it is near Saskatchewan, right? I assumed it would be very cold and snowy in Saskatchewan at this time of the year! We are having pleasant weather down in Alabama, too, but LOTS of pollen!

Yes, Reindeer Lake is on the border between the provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba. It’s quite a bit farther north than us.
