The Situation On a Snowy Sunday Afternoon

It’s early Sunday afternoon as I write this and it’s been snowing since early yesterday. We’re hunkered down at home and it’s been a delightful opportunity to get lost in a book. I just finished one and am pondering what to dive into next. I’ve been binging on psychological thrillers (this author in particular) for the past while. Her books are quick, easy reads that keep me guessing until the last page. In short: perfect cozy winter reads. I’ve got meatier ones on my TBR list but I might just choose another thriller since I’m enjoying them so much right now.

Molly’s been out-of-sorts with the storm, going back and forth to the front door to survey the situation and bark out warnings about something. We let her out in the snow for a couple of minutes this morning before Gerry started shoveling and she found it to be grand fun.

I’m going to . . . cook up a pot of chili this afternoon. It’ll feed us for a couple of meals and leave enough to tuck in the freezer for Gerry to enjoy when I’m away for a few days later this month.

I’m listening to . . . the hum of the furnace and the tap tap of my fingers on the keyboard of my MacBook.

I’m tasting . . . icy-cold water and remembering that I need to change the filter in the refrigerator’s water dispenser.

I’m seeing . . . snow falling, and now being tossed into drifts by the wind.

I’m feeling . . . the weight of a cozy sherpa blanket on my lap and a warm puppy in my arms.

I’m looking forward to . . .

  • seeing my girls in a few weeks.
  • going for a float (oh, how I miss that place).
  • visiting with my bestie.
  • spring.
  • the arrival of something I ordered recently.

I’m thinking about . . .

  • why it is that I can so easily appreciate wonder and beauty in this God-created world yet struggle to appreciate the same in myself.
  • writing in deep point-of-view.
  • transitions.
  • the wisdom of continuing to grow and challenge the status quo.
  • the definition and real-life application of the word family.
  • something sticking in my craw that I need to either choke down or spit out.
  • commitments I have in the coming week.

I’m thankful for . . .

  • my husband, our family, and our little Yorkie.
  • good health.
  • my church.
  • a home I love in the land of my dreams.
  • flannel sheets.
  • writers who share their gift.
  • mugs of milky frothy coffee in the morning.
  • the gift of living long enough to retire (officially, for ten years today) and the means to enjoy a good life post-career.
  • online shopping. (Sorry, but it’s true.)

Well, that’s the state of things around here this afternoon. Hope you’re enjoying your day as much as I am mine.

I am finding it difficult to post anything on your blog. Hopefully this makes it through. I love snowy days, inside working on things that need to be done.

    God bless.

  2. That is one way-cute puppy!

  3. A lovely day for quiet everythings.

  4. Quiet Sundays are a real treat. Your thoughts about being able to appreciate God’s creation but struggle to appreciate yourself as a beloved part of it strike a chord with me. We are “loved with an everlasting love.”
