Pre-Snow Day

It’s gray, and the first day after the break in a long string of above seasonal temperatures. We’re expecting the first snow of the season tonight. There’s been a “special weather statement” issued but, in a world where everything seems to be an emergency and require some kind of special statement or another, I’m not concerned. It’s the end of October in Saskatchewan. Winter is coming. Enough said.

Last year at this time, we were still living Kamloops waiting for our home there to sell. Daughter and Granddaughter were here and the mother-of-all-winter-storms blew in. They were without power for four days. Kinda glad we missed that. I don’t think this week’s storm, if one can call it that, will be on par with that bad boy.

Gerry and I were out early-ish this morning. There was a newly-erected snow fence between two houses in our neighbourhood. Thinking it might have something to do with mitigating against drifts forming on the driveway. Not sure. I dropped him off at the gym, stopped at the optometrist to get my new glasses adjusted, picked up coffee, and went to my favourite spa for a pedicure. It was a fine way to spend a morning.

We have a manageable week ahead.

Our theatre classes are finished (Did I tell you we signed up for murder mystery theatre classes? They were fun and we’re glad we did it. Confession: I dropped out after the mystery was solved and before we started putting together the short play. Gerry hung in there and participated in the final performance. Huge kudos to him!).

We have puppy school tomorrow evening and Gerry has to take our car to Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) as a result of his being rear-ended a couple of weeks ago (no one was hurt and our insurance is covering all damage). I have an appointment with the podiatrist (finally!) and, other than that, it’s a normal-feeling kind of week.

I don’t have a photo of today’s gray, so I’ll share one taken from our back deck in B.C. on this day three years ago after the first snowfall there. ‘Tis the season. Let the hygge commence!

  1. Funny how that first snow day has me thinking about cozy days ahead as well. We did have snow here today – quite a bit. And suddenly I want to put away my autumn themed books and start hauling out the cozy, wintry ones.

    Lovely photo!

    1. Yes, I love the cozyness in the latter dark months of the year.

It sounds like you are really looking forward to a bit of cosiness. I hope the coming snow will lift your spirits. There’s nothing quite like the light that reflects off snowy streets.

    1. Yes, I appreciate that we live in a place where there are four distinct seasons. Each one has a unique charm. 🙂

  3. I agree about the hygge!
