Friday’s Fave Five – December 8

One year ago today, Gerry and I became Moose Jaw residents fulfilling my fifty-year-old dream of returning to Saskatchewan. Sometimes, I can scarce believe I’m a Moose Javian again.

This morning sitting at my desk, I’m looking out over a landscape that is devoid of snow. It’s been unseasonably warm and what little snowfall we have had melted almost immediately. Yesterday, I read of temperature records being broken in some areas of the province. There’s more than a slight chance that we’re going to enjoy a green Christmas. We’re enjoying this, but mindful of farmers who need the moisture for next year’s crop.

It’s been a relatively busy week around here, but comfortably so. Gerry’s still under the weather so, paradoxically, it’s also been a slow one. Here’s a look at the past week with a Friday’s Fave Five post.

On Saturday afternoon, we went to Briercrest Christian Academy in Caronport and enjoyed a Christmas presentation. The choir was outstanding and we fully enjoyed it.

After having to postpone due to Gerry not feeling well, we finally got together with friends-who-are-family (it’s a long and serendipitous story) to celebrate two birthdays. These fine gentlemen are the same age and their birthdays are just a week apart. It was a delight to get together.

The sunrises this week have been utterly spectacular. Breathtaking, in fact. There’s good reason why Saskatchewan is called the land of living skiesl

We drove to Regina early one morning to pick up my hearing aids from Costco. The sky was amazing. Our cleaners were at our house, so we detoured on the way home and saw some sights we haven’t seen before. What a delight to be able to do this in December without worry about snow.

Miss Molly had her spay surgery yesterday and is recovering well. Ordinarily, Gerry and I would go out for lunch to celebrate our 1st anniversary of living in Moose Jaw but we’ll forgo festivities today in favour of staying home with our girl as she heals.

Hope your week was a good one too!

  1. Sounds like a good mix of busy, fun, and restful moments.
That first pic of the sky with the mountains is beautiful. I love mountains!! I live about 35 min west of the MA Berkshires, 40 min south of my beloved NY Adirondack Mts and about 30 min northeast of the Catskills. Saskatchewan is a place I’m not super familiar with although I’ve read books set in your area…….do you have the Rocky Mts? do they go up that far? I’ll have to google that 🙂
It sounds like you are loving December.

    1. What looks like mountains in the first photo are actually the tops of houses behind ours. There are no mountains in Saskatchewan. Though I’ve never been there, I’m told it’s similar to your Kansas. We used to live in British Columbia where there are mountains and, yes, the Rockies come up this far. They’re beautiful too. 🙂

  2. Wow, those skies are truly gorgeous. How fun to go to a Christmas presentation and meet up with friends. I hope Miss Molly recovers well.
