Since we last met, it’s been cold. I mean really cold. This was the temperature on Saturday morning when I got up. The numbers shown are in Celsius—they equate to -31F that feels like -62F.
There has been a similar pattern for the past week. We’re finally seeing a “warming trend”. We just got home from running a couple of errands—the first time I’ve left the house since this cold snap started. The temperature in our car said -20C (-4F). Honestly, it didn’t feel all that bad with no wind and bright, beautiful Saskatchewan sunshine. Everything’s relative, isn’t it?
Actually, I’ve enjoyed this past week; as retirees, we haven’t needed to leave the house. I feel for those who have had to brave the frigid temperatures to go to work—especially those who work outside. I can’t even imagine. We’ve been toasty and cozy in the house taking a slower pace, for the most part. It’s felt a bit like that liminal week between Christmas and New Year.
We’ve enjoyed long, slow, dark mornings with a second cup of coffee (the sun doesn’t rise until around 9:00 a.m. at this time of year). Pieced a jigsaw puzzle. Gotten lost in a book or two. Gerry braved the cold to pick up his new computer, and I spent time configuring it and installing software. On non-lazy days, I’ve kept busy with InScribe business that I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel with.
In the evenings, we’ve been enjoying old episodes of a new-to-us British series called Silent Witness. There are 27 seasons and we have just started watching, so it’ll keep us going for a while. Good thing, because I’ve also been busy with start-of-a-new-year things like reviewing household spending. We watch, almost exclusively, British TV on Britbox and Acorn, with a smattering of Masterpiece thrown in for good measure, so I cancelled Netflix and cut our cable back to the bare minimum (I’ll cancel it completely once our term runs out).
We’ve had a bit of snow, but not nearly enough.
We received Molly’s CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) registration papers in the mail, along with this cute sweater sent by our breeder.
Sunrises have been spectacular.
Life carries on.
There are 62 days until spring.
