Friday’s Fave Five – March 6

Posted on March 6, 2026March 6, 2026 by Linda

It’s a joy to write March at the top of this post. We’ve arrived, friends! Despite the white stuff that fell here this week, we’re inching ever closer to spring and that’s cause to celebrate. Joining with Susanne and others with another look back at gifts and blessings from the past week.

Landscape Artist of the Year. I was hit with a flare-up of a chronic health condition this week. Some unplanned sofa time gave me an opportunity to catch up on a few episodes of this program. I love watching the artist’s paintings come to life.

Rice pudding. Really, is there anything more comforting than a small dish of milk pudding when you’re feeling punk? Once upon a time, I’d go for butterscotch cooked pudding, but haven’t been able to find it for years (and the instant stuff is nowhere near the same). I sent Gerry for a container of Kozy Shack rice pudding this week; it’s a reasonable substitution.

Hyacinth. Can I mention it again? The little plant on my kitchen island is in full bloom and peak fragrance right now. Absolutely delightful! She’s leaning, so I put her next to my Woodwick candle and faucet for support.

A gifted author and a good book. I’ve read a few written by Rhys Bowen, starting with Mrs. Endicott’s Splendid Adventure, and she’s become one of my favourites. Currently enjoying The Rose Arbor. A lot of her books are available with Kindle Unlimited which is an added bonus.

People watching. Gerry had a minor medical procedure at the hospital this week. While I waited for him, I had an opportunity, in between chapters of my book, to people watch (which is one of the things I enjoy about air travel—when it goes according to plan). I saw a sweet, little girl wearing a lavender-coloured jacket and winter boots jumping up and down and turning in circles, lost in her imagination. A gentleman with an injured leg and his wife who left a chair between the two of them when she sat down. And a woman wearing a knitted cap, carrying a quilt and tote bag, hugging a friend she ran into while waiting for her number to be called.

All in all, it hasn’t been the week I expected (or wanted, to be honest), but the gifts have been there nonetheless.

I hope whatever the flare up is, that you’re having some relief from it now.
I’m loving that flower AND my husband loves rice pudding. His mom used to make it. I’m not a fan although I do love the Kozy Shack chocolate pudding 🙂 We aren’t big pudding eaters although a few weeks ago I made chia pudding and it was SO good.

Happy weekend……hopefully with some sunshine, warmer temps and a good book.

I have the Mrs. Endicott book on my pile waiting to be read. I’m sure I’ve read one of her other books, but cannot remember which one. The benefits of being absented minded — I can re-read and it’s all brand new.

I recently finished The Rose Arbor and found it as good as Mrs Endicott…
My Hyacinth has the same leaning problem but thankfully that doesn’t affect the scent.
I hope you’re feeling much better and will have an enjoyable weekend.

I haven’t thought of rice pudding in a long while. My grandma used to make it for me when I was a child and it was so good! My mom made us tapioca and now I want some. The flowers are so pretty. I like to people watch too. I hope you are feeling better now.

My mom made tapioca too, and it’s a comfort food for me too. Thanks for stopping by, Susan.

Rhys Bowen is an author whose books I enjoy. I have not read any of her Molly Murphy series, but have most of the Lady Georgina books. Light mysteries. And I loved Mrs. Endicott’s Splendid Adventure.
I do hope you both return to good health soon.

She’s very prolific, so I’ve got a lot to look forward to in exploring this author. What a treat!

I have read a few Rhys Bowen novels and enjoyed them. I do hope you both feel healthy very soon. I am taking my time and resting in order to get rid of whatever is bothering me.

    God bless.

Another new author for me to explore!
I hope you and your husband both feel better soon.
My grandma would make me soft white rice with milk whenever I was sick at her house. It is easy to eat when you’re not feeling well.
    Happy March to you!

I can totally understand the comfort of white rice with milk (and perhaps a dash of cinnamon and brown sugar?).

Can’t remember the last time I had homemade rice pudding but some of our canned alternatives are quite good but we’re not big on having puddings. I do hope you’re feeling better and that your hubby is recovering ok from his procedure. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

I am sorry about the flare-up–hope it settles down soon if it hasn’t already. I don’t think I have ever had rice pudding. When my mom made rice, she often made a little extra so we could have some with butter and sugar. I’m thinking that must be a little similar to rice pudding. I don’t think I have heard of Rhys Bowen, either, but she sounds like someone to check out. People watching can be fun. I know what you mean about weeks that don’t go according to plan that bring things we don’t want, but they have some unexpected blessings, too.

I hope by now that the flare up has settled down. I haven’t ever heard of that show. I love rice pudding with a healthy dose of cinnamon. So comforting. I’ve never read a Rhys Bowen book but have heard of this author. I’ll have to look at the library next time I go. Love people watching. Hubby and I used to go to Calgary and just sit in the big mall downtown and watch all the different people, the likes of which, at the time in the ’80’s we didn’t see in our smaller, more conservative city.
